'Beyond The Fringe' was the landmark stage revue that kicked off the British satire boom of the 1960's.
Conceived in 1960 as a showcase for the best talents from the Cambridge Footlights and Oxford Revue, it served as the career launching pad for Alan Bennett, Jonathan Miller, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
Many of the performers coming out of British universities of that era had been influenced at a young age by
The Goon Show on BBC radio in the 1950's.
The members of 'Beyond The Fringe' were essentially the first out of the gate as that influence and the changing times led to comedic phenomenons like The Establishment, 'That Was The Week That Was', 'I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again', Monty Python, and many others.
By 1961, the 'Fringe' stage show had become a hit in London's West End.
Its success continued when it traveled across the Atlantic for the Broadway run that began in 1962.
